OUR STORY AND APPROACH TO THE WORK
MindMarks is the training and consulting division of the National Training Institute on Race and Equity (NTIRE). NTIRE was formally established in 2016 by Dr. Bryant T. Marks, although Dr. Marks has been engaged in bias mitigation research and training since 1995. MindMarks is a social-impact and educational entity that assists individuals and organizations with identifying, understanding, and reducing bias at the organizational and individual levels. We do this via in-person, virtual, and video-based trainings, courses, and keynote presentations. Our offerings cover the content, skills, and behavior needed to 1) create diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations and communities and 2) reduce or eliminate bias when serving customers, clients and other stakeholders of an organization.
MindMark’s model is built on a unique combination of social and cognitive science, the tenets of Martin Luther King Jr.’s version of the Beloved Community, the values of Morehouse College, and engaging and interactive training. We use non-judgmental, yet evidence-based approaches to shed light on difficult and sensitive topics to enhance interpersonal and intergroup relations. A portion of all revenue is donated to a scholarship fund at Morehouse College, an Historically Black College for men in Atlanta, Georgia, to assist promising young men with reaching their academic and career goals.
MindMarks/NTIRE has provided training and professional development for police officers, educators, attorneys, healthcare providers, corporations, and philanthropic organizations, as well as local, state, and federal personnel. A key aspect of our approach is to push participants to view information and events from a variety of perspectives, including from others very different from themselves. We believe that our CUE model of communication, understanding, and empathy is critical in improving intergroup relations. We believe that if people can talk to each other, understand each other, and feel what someone else is feeling, then the result will be one of respect and inclusion, even if there is not full agreement of perspectives.
Our work and approach has received national attention in various forms of media, including the Washington Post, CNN, and many local outlets. We provide training in every region of the contiguous United States and keynote and plenary presentations at many national conferences. Further, the MINDMARKS team has been called in by several entities to provide training following controversial events related to personal or institutional bias.
