Implicit Bias Training for K–12 Classroom Teachers
This two-part training series is designed to empower K–12 educators to recognize and reduce the influence of implicit bias on their daily practice.
PART I: Implicit Bias Awareness introduces the science of implicit bias, explores how our unconscious associations form, and examines real-world examples of how bias manifests in schools—often without intention or malice. Educators will explore how bias can shape:
-
Expectations of student achievement
-
Disciplinary decisions and referrals
-
Teacher-student relationships
-
Access to gifted programs and special education
-
Interpretation of student behavior
-
Family engagement and communication styles
PART II: Implicit Bias Mitigation equips participants with evidence-based strategies to interrupt biased thoughts and actions. Through interactive activities, reflection, and role-play, teachers will leave with practical tools to create more equitable learning environments.
